Volleyball Runs Win Streak To Three With 3-2 Victory Over Kean
April 12, 2012 | Men's Volleyball
It may have been tougher than the home team anticipated, but the Princeton men's volleyball team ran its win streak to three Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory over Kean College.
Kean showed that its 23-8 record at the Division III record was no fluke by coming out and grabbing the opening set, but Princeton bounced back with wins in the second and third sets. Kean won a hard-fought 27-25 fourth set, but Princeton raced out to a big lead in the fifth to clinch its ninth win of the season.
Princeton got a terrific performance from sophomore outside Davis Waddell, who recorded 15 kills and hit .464 for in the win. Fellow outside Jeff Stapleton, who closed out the victory with his 16th kill of the match, and freshman opposite Cody Kessel (18 kills) were the other key pieces in the offensive attack.
Senior Scott Liljestrom guided the offense to a .451 attack percentage and recorded 52 assists, but he also added four kills on eight swings without any errors. His nine digs were second to only freshman libero Tony Ensbury, who led the Tigers with 15 digs.
Princeton will continue its long home stretch with a 7 pm showdown against Baruch College Saturday.
