Reddy Finney '51, Stu Orefice h08 to be Honored at 15th PVC Awards Banquet

On Thursday, May 31, Redmond "Reddy" C.S. Finney '51 and Director of Dining Services Stu Orefice h08 will be honored at the 15th Princeton Varsity Club Awards Banquet. The event will be held the base of Cleveland Tower at Princeton's Graduate College, beginning at 5 p.m. (click here for additional event and RSVP information).
Reddy Finney will receive the Class of 1967 PVC Citizen-Athlete Award, which is presented by the Princeton Varsity Club for selfless and noble contributions to society. Finney was a three-sport standout while at Princeton, earning All-America honors in both football and lacrosse, and being named captain of the wrestling team as a senior. He was the 1951 recipient of the prestigious William Winston Roper Trophy, which is awarded to a Princeton man of high scholastic rank, outstanding qualities of sportsmanship and general proficiency in athletics.
After graduation, Finney was a member of the U.S. Navy Amphibious Corps, spending two years in Korea. In 1954, he began a 38-year term of service at his secondary school alma mater, the Gilman School. Mr. Finney spent 14 years as a teacher and coach, followed by 24 years as Headmaster of the Baltimore preparatory school, whose athletic complex is named in his honor. He has given back to Princeton in many ways, including serving as an Alumni Trustee and Class President.
Stu Orefice h08 is this year's recipient of the Marvin Bressler Award, given annually to that member of the Princeton family who, through heartfelt support of the University's student-athletes and coaches, best embodies a belief that lifelong lessons taught by competition and athletics as a complement to the overall educational mission. During his current 20-year term as the Director of Dining Services at Princeton, Orefice has ushered Princeton's culinary outlets through a period of unparalleled growth and expansion while also working closely with the Department of Athletics. He is a member of the Academic-Athletic Fellows program, and opened the Backcourt Bistro (also serving as the in-game clock operator) at men's basketball games. Orefice was made an honorary member of the Class of 2008 for "progressive leadership and vision with foodservices and for his support of student-athletes in all of their endeavors."
The PVC Awards Banquet joins together the entire Princeton athletics family - past and present - to celebrate each other's accomplishments. The evening features annual awards presentations, student-athlete speeches, and special recognition of individuals, leaving a lasting impact on all of the students, parents, alumni, and Friends in attendance. In addition, for many in the Class of 2012, the banquet will be their first introduction to the vast network of alumni and Friends - representing all Princeton sports - who are joined together by the Princeton Varsity Club.
