The combination of a physically and emotionally exhausting Friday night and a determined reigning champion in Yale was too much for the Princeton women's volleyball team Saturday night at Dillon Gym. The Bulldogs grabbed a share of first place in the Ivy League with a 3-0 win over the previously Ivy-unbeaten Tigers.
Yale was able to play the roll of frontrunner for most of the 25-17, 25-22, 25-12 victory, which will send both teams into next weekend with matching 4-1 records in Ivy League play. Princeton held a 15-12 lead midway through the second set, but the Bulldogs responded with six of the next seven points and never looked back in the win.
The Bulldogs were able to contain four-time Ivy League Player of the Week Kendall Peterkin to only eight kills in the match. Senior Nicole Kincade led Princeton with 10 kills and hit .348, but no other Tiger had double-digit kills in the match.
Sophomore Lauren Miller returned to the lineup and had 23 assists and seven digs, while junior Sarah Daschbach had 16 digs for the Tigers.
After four straight home matches, Princeton will make the difficult Dartmouth-Harvard road trip next weekend. Both will be 5 pm matches, beginning Friday night in Hanover against the Big Green.
