November 01, 2014 | Men's Water Polo
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team extended its win streak to seven games with a hard-fought 10-8 victory over CWPA Southern Division rival No. 12 Bucknell University at Kinney Natatorium.
Getting the better of the Bison for the second time this season, Princeton improved to 18-3 (7-1 Southern Division), while snapping Bucknell's seven game win streak. The Bison fell to 12-7 (4-4 Southern Division) with the loss.
Holding a slim 3-2 lead after the first eight minutes, the Tigers accounted for three of the second quarter's four goals to take a 6-3 lead into the intermission. With Bucknell holding a 3-2 scoring edge in the third period, Princeton battled the home team to a 2-2 tie down the stretch to claim a two-goal margin of victory.
Coming off a career-high six goal effort against Iona, Jordan Colina once again paced the Tiger attack with five scores, while also going 4-0 on sprints. Drew Hoffenberg turned in a hat trick, while Jovan Jeremic and Connor McGoldrick came up with Princeton's other two tallies. Bradley Wachtell and Sam Butler combined for nine steals with Butler also posting a pair of blocks. Jamie Kuprenas led the Orange and Black with three assists.
Improving to 14-2 on the season, Vojislav Mitrovic made 13 saves. Stopping five shots in the first half, he made three saves in the third quarter. Needing to preserve the Tiger lead, the freshman netminder tacked on five more saves in the final frame.
Princeton will serve as the top seed and host of next weekend's (Nov. 7-9) Southern Division Championship at DeNunzio Pool.
