PRINCETON SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIP VIDEO PREVIEW
LAST TIME OUT
Princeton extended its win streak to seven games with a 10-8 victory over Bucknell last Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa. Up 8-6 after the first three quarters, the Tigers battled the Bison to a 2-2 tie over the final eight minutes to claim a two-goal margin of victory.
Going 4-0 on sprints, Jordan Colina paved the way for the Orange and Black attack with five goals. Drew Hoffenberg posted a hat trick, while Jovan Jeremic and Connor McGoldrick each had a goal and an assist. Jamie Kuprenas dished out three helpers, while Bradley Wachtell and Sam Butler combined for nine steals. Improving to 14-2 on the season, Vojislav Mitrovic made 13 saves, which included five in the final period.
ON A TEAR
Coming into his own over the last two weeks, Jordan Colina has registered a team high 14 goals in the Tigers' past three games, finding the back of the opposing net on 77.8 percent of his shots. Beginning with a three-score effort against Fordham on Oct. 25, he posted a career-best six goals in a 13-12 overtime win over Iona. Against Bucknell last weekend, he recorded five more tallies on just six shots. Going 12-0 on sprints during that span, the rookie has also nabbed six steals. On the season, Colina currently leads the team in steals (36) while ranking second on the squad in goals (41).
FARE THEE WELL
This weekend's Southern Championship games will be the last for the Class of 2015 at DeNunzio Pool. In four seasons in Orange and Black, Sam Butler, Drew Hoffenberg, Kayj Shannon and Kevin Zhang have helped Princeton to a 79-31 (0.718) overall record with a 25-7 (0.781) mark against Southern Division opponents. As freshmen in 2011, the quartet helped the Tigers to a third CWPA Eastern Championship and fourth NCAA Tournament appearance.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Netting at least three goals in a game for the 10th time this season with a hat trick against Bucknell, Drew Hoffenberg continues to close in on fourth-place on the program's scoring list. Just eight goals shy of Christopher Gratian's total of 231, the senior has dished out 119 helpers over the course of his four-year career, standing just 19 shy of matching Eric Vreeland's school record. Just the second player in team history to reach the 100-assist plateau, he is the only Princeton student-athlete to register at least 200 goals and 100 assists.
TOP DOG
Ranked ninth nationally, Princeton enters this weekend's Southern Championship as the tournament's top seed. The Tigers last captured the Southern Division crown in 2010 with an 8-6 win over Bucknell. Princeton also opened that tournament run against Gannon, defeating the Golden Knights, 13-4.
CWPA SOUTHERN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Princeton will host this weekend's (Nov. 7-9) CWPA Southern Division Championship as the tournament's top seed. Seeding was based on a vote of the division's head coaches.
The 11-team field from the Southern's East and West regions will vie for five automatic bids to the CWPA Championship on Nov. 21-23 at the United States Naval Academy. Fellow East region competitors Navy, Bucknell, Johns Hopkins and George Washington claimed the No. 2-5 seeds to join the Tigers atop the field.
All of this weekend's action will be streamed live on the Ivy Digital Network.
Friday & Sunday Parking: Free parking on Friday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 9 will be available for all individuals in Lot 21, immediately adjacent to DeNunzio Pool. All individuals are asked to park in lined spaces and not along the curbs.
