CANTON, N.Y. (11/21/14) - A pair of St. Lawrence goals just 1:37 apart in the second period was the difference maker as the Saints defeated Princeton in men's hockey, 3-0 at Appleton Arena on Friday, Nov. 21.
St. Lawrence's Kyle Hayton collected his fourth shutout, making 26 saves as St. Lawrence improves to 8-4-1 overall. Hayton stopped two Princeton breakaways to earn the clean sheet.
On the other end, sophomore Colton Phinney had a solid goaltending effort with 37 stops, as the Saints had a 40-26 edge in shots.
After a scoreless first period it was Gavin Bayreuther that broke the stalemate. Bayreuther took a pass from Pat Doherty and tucked it under the cross bar at 3:39. Christian Horn finished a 2x1 with Brian Ward at 5:16. Matt Purmal added the insurance goal at 17:18 of the third period.
Princeton (1-5-1, 1-4 ECAC) faces Clarkson tomorrow night at 7 p.m., at Cheel Arena.
