BOX SCORES: Princeton 3, Akron 2 l Rutgers 3, Princeton 0
Trailing 2-0 to Akron, the Princeton women's volleyball team rallied for a thrilling five-set win to complete a final-day split at the Rutgers Invitational. Princeton, which opens Ivy League play next Friday at Penn, fell 3-0 to host Rutgers in the finale.
Junior Kendall Peterkin was named to her third straight all-tournament team after leading Princeton back from an 0-2 hole against Akron. Peterkin, who ranks in the national Top 20 in both points and kills, recorded 19 kills, 21 digs and three blocks in the 20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-9 win over Akron.
Both Nicole Kincade and Cara Mattaliano had 12 kills apiece for Princeton, while Lauren Miller paced the offense with 45 assists.
A tough first-set loss in the finale hurt Princeton in a 27-25, 25-19, 25-22 loss to the Scarlet Knights in the finale. Peterkin, who had been Princeton's top hitter throughout the season, was given the match off, and Kincade did her best to take over the offense. She had 12 kills and hit .333 for the Tigers, while senior co-captain Francie Jenkins added nine kills from the rightside, but it would not be enough.
Junior Sarah Daschbach averaged more than 4.3 digs per set, while senior Ginny Willis added 15 assists and eight digs.
