Schenectady, N.Y. (1/4/15) - Freshman Alysia DaSilva made 16 saves and three different Tigers scored goals as the Princeton women's hockey team earned a 3-0 shutout over Union on Saturday, Jan. 4.
It was the second career start for DaSilva, second win of the year and first shutout.
It was a defensive battle in the first period as shots ended 5-1 in favor of Princeton. The Tigers ramped up the offense during the next 40 minutes, doubling up the Dutchwomen in shots 30-15.
Defenders Kelsey Koelzer and Brianne Mahoney both had two-point games, assisting on the first two goals.
Princeton broke through at 15:55 of the middle frame as Molly Contini collected her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Contini was able to redirect a Koelzer shot from the point to get one by goalie Shenae Lundberg.
Sly made it 2-0 with her third goal of the year at 12:41 of the third period, again with help from Koelzer and Mahoney.
Sophomore Fiona McKenna capped the victory with an empty-net goal on a feed from classmate Audrey Potts at 17:47, just 10 seconds after Lundberg was pulled for the extra skater.
Both teams were 0 for 2 on the power play.
Princeton improves to 8-8-1 overall and 6-5 in the ECAC. Union drops to 4-13-3 overall and 1-7 in the ECAC.
