January 06, 2015 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the first rankings of the spring dual-match season Tuesday, and both Princeton tennis programs were on the list.
The women's team was ranked 36th, the highest ranking of any Ivy team on the list, ahead of No. 40 Columbia, No. 50 Yale and No. 52 Harvard. Freshman Katrine Steffensen and sophomore Dorothy Tang were included on the doubles list, tied for 50th as one of four Ivy duos ranked.
The men's team was ranked 58th, one of five Ivy teams included, along with No. 16 Columbia, No. 29 Harvard, No. 47 Dartmouth and No. 60 Cornell. Individually, freshman Luke Gamble was ranked No. 105 in singles, one of seven Ivy players on that list.
Princeton's women ended last year at No. 36 after a win over Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA tournament and two third-set matches away from beating Alabama in the second round. Current sophomore Alanna Wolff and senior Lindsay Graff ended last seaosn ranked individually, both on the singles (Wolff 68th, Graff 94th) and doubles (90th as a team) lists.
The Tiger men ended last season ranked 61st and return senior Zack McCourt (110th on the singles list) from last year's rankings.
Both teams will start competition later this month, the women heading to Alabama for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against Virginia Tech and either Alabama or Syracuse on Jan. 24 and 25, and the men visiting Colorado the following weekend, first for a Jan. 30 match at Air Force and then a Jan. 31 contest at Denver.
