Shweisky Brings Experience From Junior World Championships Into Fall Season
October 15, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
Sam Shweisky, who is about to enter his seventh season as the head coach of the Princeton men's volleyball team, will be able to incorporate some invaluable experiences into the team this season.
Shweisky was a member of the USA Junior National Team coaching staff at the 2015 Men's U-21 World Championships this past summer. Shweisky served as the defensive coordinator on a staff led by head coach Dan Friend, who led Lewis to the 2015 NCAA Championship match.
The USA finished 11th overall for the second straight World Championship, though the American squad won four of its final five matches, including a 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 12-25, 15-10 victory over Iran in the finale to clinch 11th place.
"I am so honored every time I am able to represent the USA and this experience was no different," Shweisky said. "To be able to compete with the top sixteen teams in the world at the U-21 division was a great experience for me professionally. The level of play was outstanding and I am excited to bring some new ideas back to use in our gym here at Princeton. Thank you to USA Volleyball for this amazing experience."
The Princeton men's volleyball team opens its season Jan. 5 against Ohio State and will play seven matches against teams ranked in the final AVCA Top 15 last season. Ironically, Shweisky will face two coaches on the USA staff; besides a match at Lewis March 16, Princeton will play two matches against George Mason and its new head coach Jay Hosack, a fellow assistant on Team USA.
