Empty-Net Goals Give No. 4 Clarkson 3-0 Win Over No. 10 Princeton

POTSDAM, N.Y. (11/21/15) - Senior Kimberly Newell made a career-high 48 saves for the No. 10 Princeton women's hockey team as it fell 3-0 to No. 4 Clarkson on two empty-net goals in the final two minutes.
Newell's previous best was 47 saves, which she picked up twice - most recently last November against Minnesota.
Josiane Pozzebon put the Green & Gold on the board less than four minutes into the game. She rifled a shot from the right point, just moments after Newell made five straight saves on a plethora of shots on the doorstep. Erin Ambrose and Genevieve Bannon earned the assists on the goal.
Pozzebon's goal was all that separated the teams until two empty-net goals in the final 1:44 as Princeton attempted to tie the game. Olivia Howe scored both empty-net goals. Her first came with help from Lauren Lefler and Cayley Mercer at 18:16. Howe added the insurance with five ticks remaining on the clock.
Each team went 0 for 7 on the power play. Princeton's fourth-ranked penalty killing unit improves to 46 for 48 (95.8 percent).
Shea Tiley stopped all 20 shots for the Golden Knights, who improve to 14-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in league play.Princeton is now 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the ECAC. The Tigers take a brief stay from league play when they take on RIT in a pair of games at Gene Polisseni Center on Nov. 27 & 28.
