The Princeton men's squash team advanced to the semifinals of the Hoehn Cup draw Friday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Bates College. Junior Michael LeBlanc had an important 3-2 win during the first shift to keep momentum on Princeton's side, and the Tigers swept the second shift to clinch the win.
Princeton will now face the winner of the Williams/Drexel match Saturday at 11:30; the winner of that match will face either Cornell or Dartmouth, as both Ivy programs secured spots in the other semifinal.
Sophomore Ben Leizman picked up Princeton's first win at the No. 9, and then LeBlanc had to fight off a strong effort from Caran Arora at the No. 6 spot. LeBlanc had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but he didn't clinch the victory until an 11-7 victory in the fifth.
The senior duo of Tyler Osborne and Taylor Tutrone both won in the second shift, and junior Sam Ezratty overcame a loss in the third game to win 11-9 in the fourth for a 3-1 victory. That clinched the team win for the Tigers and a berth in the semifinal.
Princeton got a 3-0 win at the No. 7 spot from freshman Abhimanyu Shah, and then senior tri-captain overcame two close losses to post an 11-2 win in the decisive fifth game.
