MacDonald Honored Again, This Time As Ivy Co-Player Of The Week
February 24, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Mike MacDonald had one point at halftime against Hofstra. By the end of the third quarter, he had pretty much cemented another Ivy League men's lacrosse honor.
MacDonald went for four goals and three assists in the third quarter and then added another goal in the fourth quarter to tie his career high with nine points as Princeton defeated Hofstra 14-12 in the snow last Saturday.
The big performance earned MacDonald a share of the Ivy League Player of the Week award, which he shares this week with Harvard's Deke Burns, who put up seven goals in Harvard's 14-13 come-from-behind win over UMass. In fact, MacDonald and Burns do more than share the league's Player of the Week award, as they're also tied for first in Division I in points per game with 7.0.
For MacDonald it was the second straight week that he was honored by the Ivy League, after earning Player of the Week honors in Week 1 after his two goals and three assists against Manhattan.
Added together, MacDonald now has seven goals and seven assists through two games. He has already scored more than one-third of the goals he scored last season, when he was slowed by injuries in both hips. And yes, it's early, but in fact, MacDonald is on pace for 45 regular season goals, which would be in line with the 43 he scored as sophomore.
MacDonald is now 16th all-time in goals scored (91) and points (144) at Princeton.
The Tigers are now ranked 18th by both the media and coaches. They will travel to Baltimore this weekend to take on Johns Hopkins, ranked 12th in both polls, at Homewood Field. Face-off is Saturday at 1.
