Junior Devin Stearns Claims EIVA Offensive Player Of The Week Honor
March 10, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
Junior outside hitter Devin Stearns, an All-EIVA performer last season, posted a career effort last Saturday to help fight off an upset bid by NJIT. His 20-kill performance guided Princeton to a 3-2 comeback win and earned him the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Stearns recorded 20 kills, five blocks, two digs, one ace and one assist to help the Tigers rally from an 0-2 deficit in a five-set victory over the Highlanders. He was especially efficient on the offensive end, hitting .429 for the match. The win kept Princeton within one match of Penn State, who the Tigers will play when they resume EIVA play March 27 in State College.
"I am so proud of how Devin embraced a leadership role on the court this past weekend," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "We all know what he is capable of and we were all very excited to see him play like we know he can."
Stearns, a three-year starter for Princeton, now ranks second on the team with 2.2 kills per set.
Princeton is off this weekend, but will take on two nationally ranked teams in road matches next week. The Tigers will face No. 11 Ohio State next Tuesday (5 pm) in Columbus, and then will take on No. 12 Ball State Wednesday (7:30 pm) in Muncie, Ind.
