No. 11 Ohio State Knocks Off Men's Volleyball To Start Spring Break Trip
March 17, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
The 11th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes won a trio of close sets to defeat the Princeton men's volleyball team 3-0 in the first of two matches for the Tigers during their Spring Break trip.
Senior Cody Kessel led Princeton (8-6) with 10 kills and seven digs in the 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes (15-5). Junior Devin Stearns added six kills, three digs and two blocks, while senior middle Will Siroky added four kills, five blocks, two digs and a service ace.
Sophomore Chris Kennedy paced the offense with 26 assists and matched Kessel with seven digs, while classmate Junior Oboh had five kills and hit .571 in the match.
Princeton got out to an 18-14 lead in the opening set, but Ohio State went on an 8-0 run to take control of the set for a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes carried that momentum into the second set and took an early lead, but a Siroky kill got the deficit to one point at 21-20. The Buckeyes never allowed Princeton to draw even and pulled away for the 25-21 win, and they never trailed in a 25-21 win in the final set.
Princeton will take another shot at a ranked opponent Wednesday night when it takes on 14th-ranked Ball State Wednesday night at 7:30.
