MacDonald Adds USILA Offensive Player Of The Week To Ivy Honor
March 25, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Mike MacDonald had a nine-goal, four-assist week, and Princeton needed every one of those 13 points to come away with a pair of wins.
The big week earned MacDonald USILA Offensive Player of the Week honors, after he also earned Ivy League Co-Player of the Week honors, making this the third time this season that the Canadian senior has been recognized by the league. Dartmouth's Phil Hession, who won 20 of 24 face-offs and had 15 ground balls as the Big Green defeated Harvard 12-11 in overtime, was honored along with MacDonald.
MacDonald started his week by tying his career high with seven goals in a 12-11 win over Rutgers. He followed that up with two goals and four assists in an 11-10 win over Yale.
Of his seven goals against Rutgers, four came during a 5-0 run after Princeton trailed 9-7 in the fourth quarter.
His third goal against Rutgers made him the 10th player in program history to reach 100 goals, and he now has 106 goals, tied with Tom Schreiber for seventh-best. His 65 assists make him, Schreiber and Wick Sollers the only three players in program history with at least 100 career goals and 60 career assists.
MacDonald is also the only player in Princeton men's lacrosse history with at least one career game of six assists and at least one career game of seven goals.
Princeton is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League and is 3-0 in one-goal games this year.
After the the two wins last week, Princeton moved from 13th to 10th in the media poll and 10th to ninth in the coaches' poll.
Princeton's next game will be Sunday at 11 a.m. against Brown on Sherrerd Field. The Bears will come to Princeton with a 6-1 record, the same as Princeton, and a 1-0 Ivy record.
Princeton is ranked 10th by the media and ninth by the coaches. Brown is ranked 12th in this week's media poll and 13th in the coaches' poll.
