Volleyball Concludes Homestand With Matchups Against Juniata, NJIT
March 05, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team will conclude a six-match homestand this weekend with a pair of evening showdowns inside the friendly confines of Dillon Gym. Following a Friday night matchup with Juniata, the Tigers will return to EIVA play Saturday evening in a rematch with NJIT.
Both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network, and you can follow live updates through the team's Twitter feed @PrincetonVolley.
Princeton (6-5, 3-1 EIVA) had broken into the AVCA national Top 15 for two weeks following victories over two ranked opponents (Cal State-Northridge and Harvard), but the Tigers back into the "Receiving Votes" category following last weekend's 3-1 home loss to George Mason. The swing game in the match came after Princeton won the opener 25-19; Mason fought off five set balls and eventually won 34-32, and the Patriots carried the momentum of that victory to a 3-1 win.
Despite the loss, Princeton remained in second place in the EIVA, one match behind Penn State (6-9, 4-0 EIVA). Senior opposite Cody Kessel continues to lead the NCAA in points per set (5.69), while sophomore middle Junior Oboh has moved to fifth in the NCAA with 1.32 blocks per set.
Juniata, a former EIVA member and one of the nation's top Division III programs, will come to Dillon Gym with a 15-2 record this season. Middle blocker Joe Bortak leads the Eagles with 3.5 points per set, and he is hitting .452 for the season.
NJIT (7-6, 0-4 EIVA) is led by first-year head coach Danny Goncalves. Princeton defeated NJIT 3-0 in Newark during the Tigers' EIVA opener; Kajetan Borecki had 10 kills and five digs for the Highlanders in that match.
Following the match, Princeton will play six straight road matches, a stretch that begins with showdowns at Ohio State (March 17), Ball State (March 18) and Penn State (March 27).
