There are two weekends of three Ivy League games each remaining to the regular season. At this point, it appears, unofficially at least, that Princeton and Cornell will make up half of the field at the Ivy League tournament.
What is 100% certain is that none of the seven Ivy teams has been eliminated to date. Each of the three games this weekend will have a huge impact on what direction the race takes.
It starts tonight with Princeton and Harvard and continues with Cornell at Brown and Dartmouth at Penn. The matchups next weekend are Princeton-Cornell, Harvard-Yale and Brown-Dartmouth.
Right now, Princeton and Cornell are tied for first at 3-1, followed by Yale at 3-2 and Brown at 2-2. Penn is 2-3, while Harvard and Dartmouth are both 1-3.
For Harvard, who hosted last year's Ivy tournament, the postseason starts today, as this is essentially an elimination game for the Crimson, who would be out of the race with a defeat. This, of course, makes the Crimson twice as dangerous.
* * *
The Ivy League tournament will be in either Princeton or at Cornell or Brown. It cannot be hosted by any other team.
The only way Brown can host it would be to have a three-way tie or four-way tie for the championship. A Cornell win over Brown this weekend would mean that the tournament would have to be in either Princeton or Ithaca.
Should Princeton and Cornell both win this weekend, then the outright championship would go to the team that would then win in Ithaca next week. If one of Princeton and Cornell wins this weekend while the other loses, then the team that wins would clinch at least a share of the Ivy League championship.
* * *
Princeton can be the outright Ivy champion, the Ivy co-champion or the seccond-, third- or fourth-place team in the league.

Harvard was the second Ivy team Princeton ever played in lacrosse, all the way back in 1882. Harvard was in fact the third collegiate opponent for Princeton and the only one of those three that today fields a Division I lacrosse team. The other two were Columbia and NYU.
Princeton and Harvard played every year from 1882 until 1889, two years before Princeton dropped the sport. The next meeting wasn't until 1922, one year after the sport was restarted at Princeton, but the teams played sparingly until the 1950s, which explains why Princeton has played Yale 99 times but Harvard only 80 times.
The teams have met every year since 1953. Princeton leads the all-times series 57-22-1.
* * *
Harvard is 1-3 in the Ivy League, with three of the four games having been decided by one goal. Harvard is 1-2 in those games, with losses to Dartmouth (in OT) and Penn and a win over Cornell.
A year ago, Harvard defeated Princeton 9-8 in Cambidge. The Tigers missed the Ivy tournament last year after going 2-4 in the league, with three one-goal losses and a two-goal loss.
* * *
Princeton scored the first goal against Harvard a year ago before falling behind 7-1 late in the second quarter. The Tigers came back to within 9-8 with 5:46 to play.
Princeton would take six more shots, two of which hit the pipe and the last of which was saved by Jake Gambitsky on a low shot from Jake Froccaro.
Ryan Ambler, who scored three times, was the only player in the game on either team with more than two goals.
* * *
Mike MacDonald leads Princeton in goals with 38, assists with 22 and points with 60. He ranks fourth in Division I in points per game and fifth in Division I in goals per game.
He needs two goals to become the first player in Princeton men's lacrosse history to have a season of at least 40 goals and at least 20 assists.
In addition, MacDonald needs two goals to become the third player in program history - along with Jesse Hubbard and Chris Massey - to have at least two seasons with at least 40 goals.
MacDonald scored 43 goals two years ago and then had 19 last year, when he was was slowed by hip injuries that required off-season surgery.
MacDonald is currently fourth all-time at Princeton with 122 career goals. He trails only Hubbard (163), Massey (146) and Sean Hartofilis (126).
MacDonald is also seventh all-time at Princeton in points with 190 (122G, 68A). With two more points, he would tie Chris Massey for sixth; with 10 he would tie Tom Schreiber for fifth at exactly 200.
As for the single-season lists, MacDonald is in a four-way tie for ninth with 60 points. He needs one to tie Wick Sollers for eighth.His 38 goals rank 12th in a season.
* * *
If that's not enough MacDonald, he also has had at least three goals in eight of 11 games this year.
He comes into the Harvard game having had back-to-back games of five goals and one assist.
* * *
Kip Orban has 33 goals on the season.
The record for goals in a season by a Princeton midfielder is 36, set by Josh Sims in 2000. Orban is actually third among middies, behind Sims and Mark Kovler, who had 34 in 2009.
* * *
Mike MacDonald and Kip Orban have combined for 71 of Princeton's 137 goals this season.
* * *
Gavin McBride is the only Princeton player with at least one point in every game this season.
McBride did not score as a freshman and now has 17 goals and nine assists this season. Princeton has never before had a player who did not score as a freshman who has reached 17 goals as a sophomore.
* * *
Princeton is playing at home for the first time since March 29 and the final time in the regular season.
Princeton has played 11 games, of which seven have been on the road and four have been at home. Princeton has not played a minute of lacrosse at home this season to date where the temperature has been above 45 degrees.
* * *
Princeton leads the Ivy League and ranks fourth nationally in team shooting percentage at .355.
Mike MacDonald has a shooting percentage of .437, while Kip Orban has a shooting percentage of .412.
Only Sean Connors, with six goals on 12 shots, has a better shooting percentage.
* * *
Princeton defeated Dartmouth 16-5 last Saturday. Austin Sims had his first two career points with two assists (both to Orban). Matt Brophy and Greg Merrill each scored his first career goal.
* * *
Shortstick defensive midfielder Austin deButts currently leads Princeton in caused turnovers with 16, including two last week against Dartmouth.
Since caused turnovers became an official NCAA stat in 2010, no shortstick has led Princeton in the category.
* * *
Kip Orban and Mike MacDonald were both named mid-season second-team All-Americas by Inside Lacrosse.
Neither was a preseason All-America on first-team, second-team, third-team or honorable mention. Both are Major League Lacrosse draftees. Orban was selected in the third round by Charlotte, while Mike MacDonald went in the sixth round to Rochester.
Princeton also has four players on the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list - MacDonald and Jake Froccaro were originally named, and Kip Orban and Zach Currier were added.
* * *
Will Reynolds, a preseason third-team All-America defenseman, will miss the rest of the season due to an injury he suffered in the season opener against Manhattan. Jake Froccaro, also a preseason third-team All-America, played against Manhattan and Maryland but will also miss the rest of the season due to a concussion.
Mark Strabo had started every game of his career before getting injured after the Manhattan game. He has not played since and will miss the rest of the season.
