Princeton Earns At Least A Share Of Ivy Title
April 18, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Regardless of what May has in store for the Princeton men's lacrosse team, April has brought the team a championship.
When Brown defeated Cornell 15-6 Saturday afternoon, it meant that Princeton had earned at least a share of the Ivy League championship. Princeton put itself in position to clinch at least a share with its 12-11 win over Harvard Friday night.
Up next for Princeton is a trip to Cornell this coming Saturday on the final weekend of the regular season. At stake is an outright Ivy League title and home field in the Ivy League tournament, both of which would be Princeton's with a victory in Ithaca.
With just three league games to be played - Yale is at Harvard and Brown is at Dartmouth - the Ivy League tournament picture is coming into focus.
For starters, three of the four spots have been clinched, with Princeton, Cornell and Yale definitely headed to the tournament. Brown is in the most interesting spot, as the Bears can be anywhere from the host team to not in the tournament at all.
The tournament can be hosted by Princeton, Cornell or Brown.
Penn can get in, but only with a Dartmouth win over Brown. Harvard and Dartmouth are eliminated.
It's still possible for a co-championship, three-way championship or even four-way championship. There can also be an outright champion and a four-way tie for second.
In its simplest terms, Princeton would be the outright champion and host for the tournament with a win over Cornell. Should Cornell defeat Princeton, then Brown would be the host if it defeated Dartmouth. If Cornell wins and Brown loses, then Cornell would be the host.No matter what happens, Princeton is assured of at least a share of the championship, which is the 27th in program history.
