First-Teamers Kessel, Oboh Lead Cast Of Four Tigers On 2015 All-EIVA Teams
April 27, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
Senior opposite Cody Kessel and sophomore middle blocker Junior Oboh both earned first-team All-EIVA honors, it was announced April 27 by the league office. They join teammates Will Siroky and Chris Kennedy on the 2015 all-league team.
Princeton, which earned the fourth seed for the upcoming EIVA Championships, will take on Penn State Wednesday night at 7:30 pm. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the earlier semifinal between second-seeded Harvard and third-seeded George Mason.
Kessel is in the process of completing a historic career for Princeton. He captured first-team All-EIVA honors every year of his career, including a 2015 season when he earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week honor three times. Kessel ranks third in the NCAA in both kills (4.32) and points (5.20) per set, and his 30 kills against Saint Francis helped the Tigers clinch their fourth straight trip to the EIVA semifinals.
Oboh earned his first All-EIVA honor following a brilliant sophomore season, when he ranked second in the EIVA in both hitting percentage (.401) and blocks (1.05). A Defensive Player of the Week honoree this season, Oboh enters the postseason after hitting above .560 in each of his last two matches.
Both Siroky and Kennedy earned second-team honors. Siroky led Princeton with a .429 hitting percentage (he didn't have enough attempts to qualify for the EIVA stats), and he finished second on the team with .86 blocks. Kennedy was Princeton's primary setter this season and averaged 9.38 assists per set; in the EIVA clincher over Saint Francis, Kennedy had 54 assists.
