PRINCETON VS. AMERICAN HIGHLIGHTS
PRINCETON, N.J. – Maddie Copeland of the 20th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Tigers to a 5-1 victory over American University.
Posting her first career hat trick, Copeland netted all three of her goals in the second half. Putting away her first score just 1:38 after the restart, Copeland dribbled past a couple of American defenders into the circle before ripping a shot into the bottom left corner of the Eagles' cage.
Nine minutes later, Copeland made a run to the front of the net, redirecting an Elizabeth George shot past American goalkeeper Kate McBeath at 45:38. In the latter stages of the second stanza, Copeland struck again, once again finishing off a George feed. Receiving the ball in the middle of the circle, Copeland chipped a reverse hit over a charging McBeath at 69:03.
Copeland is currently tied for second on the squad in points (7) with three goals and an assist. Over the course of her four seasons in Orange and Black, the senior striker has amassed 44 points on 21 goals and a pair of helpers.
