Princeton Men's Lacrosse: Portugal Day 5

Friday TigerBlog From Portugal
The Princeton men's lacrosse team's bus pulled out of its hotel Thursday morning about an hour after the English national team left Manchester Airport, about two hours after the flight was scheduled to leave and about five hours after most of the English players woke up.
Then they met up on a pristine grass field at Lisbon's National Sports Complex nearly seven hours later.
The first of three games between Princeton and England went to the Tigers 15-5 Thursday afternoon. Gavin McBride, Zach Currier, Dawson McKenzie and Andrew Bowman each scored twice for Princeton, while Michael Sowers and Charlie Durbin had three assists apiece. The teams will play against Friday morning and Sunday morning while having a joint practice Saturday.

The day for Princeton began with a walking tour of the heart of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and one of the oldest cities in Europe, older than London, Paris or Rome. The tour went through several squares in the city, down some narrow streets, up a hill to a view overlooking much of the surrounding area and ultimately down a long walking street with shops and restaurants that went to the River Tagus.
This was Princeton's first real experience with Lisbon. The team flew into the city Sunday morning and then immediately bussed to the Algarve section, near the Spanish border. After returning late Wednesday, the Princeton group was able to see Lisbon up close Thursday.
The team left the hotel at 9 for the walking tour and then lunch in Lisbon. From there it was over the fields at the National Sports Complex, where Princeton met up with its counterparts from England.
Back in 2008, Princeton defeated England 9-8 and 9-7 in two games played in Spain. On this day the English would score first, barely 90 seconds into the game (which was played under international rules, which meant four 20-minute running time quarters), but Princeton would answer with the next 12. It was 7-1 at halftime and 12-1 late in the third before England was able to end the run.
In addition to the four multi-goal scorers, Princeton also got single goals from Riley Thompson, Charlie Durbin, Phillip Robertson, Bear Altemus, Jasper Arnold, Jack O'Brien and J.T. Caputo. Princeton outshot England 43-26.
Currier was the only Princeton player with at least one goal (he had two), assist (he had one), ground ball and caused turnover (he had two of each).
After the game, the teams went back to the hotel that they are sharing to have dinner together.
In addition to the game Friday morning, there will also be a river cruise along Lisbon's shore.
