Cornell Outlasts Men's Squash In 5-4 Jadwin Thriller
February 13, 2016 | Men's Squash
Ultimately, though, Cornell's Harry Freeman was able to fight off a comeback effort by Princeton freshman Clark Doyle in a 3-2 victory at the No. 1 position.
Freeman held three match balls at 10-7, but Doyle fought off each to ignite a passionate crowd on Jadwin's main court. Freeman won the 10-10 point, and then claimed the match on a stroke call to clinch the 5-4 win.
Princeton got victories from Vivek Dinodia, Abhimanyu Shah, Michael LeBlanc, and, in a terrific effort, Ben Leizman during the match. Leizman trailed 2-1 to Benjamin Francis, but he started to dictate play in the fourth for an 11-8 win. Francis got out to an early lead in the fifth, but Leizman was able to get back in control and outlasted Francis in a thriller.
LeBlanc's victory was an impressive one, and it will also be his final at the Jadwin Squash Courts. The four-year starter took a 3-0 win at the No. 6 spot, which helped the Tigers to an early lead.
Princeton will close the regular season Sunday at noon at Columbia.
