Columbia Squash Closes Regular Season With 7-2 Victory Over Princeton
February 14, 2016 | Men's Squash
Junior Ben Leizman capped off one of the most impressive weekends of his career with a 3-1 victory over Salmaan Amin at the No. 8 spot. Leizman, who rallied from a 2-1 hole to score a 3-2 win over Cornell Friday, won games of 11-9, 11-9 and 11-8 to take the win.
Princeton also got a victory from William Oon, who dropped his opener at No. 7 and then took control against Jonathan Gill. Oon, whose development throughout the season has been yet another bright spot concerning the team's future, took the match with wins of 11-6, 11-6 and 11-7.
Columbia's strength is at the top of the lineup, and it carried the day Sunday. Tiger freshman Clark Doyle put up a good showing against reigning CSA finalist Osama Khalifa, especially early, but he couldn't take a game at the No. 1 spot. Classmate Cody Cortes also had a good battle, which included a 17-15 game, but he fell at the No. 2 spot.
Head coach Sean Wilkinson was able to use all of his available seniors during the match. Michael LeBlanc, who won his home finale Friday against Cornell, lost a tight 3-1 match at No. 6. Princeton native Chris Harwood took a game at No. 9 before falling 3-1, and Nick Barton — who earned a Rhodes Scholarship this year — won two games at No. 10 before falling in five.
Princeton is now off for two weeks before heading to Chelsea Piers for the CSA Team Championships.
