Comeback Effort Falls Short As Tigers Drop First EIVA Match At St. Francis
February 20, 2016 | Men's Volleyball
Despite 15 kills from senior Devin Stearns, the Princeton men's volleyball team dropped its first EIVA match of the season at Saint Francis Friday night. The Tigers tried to dig their way out of an early hole, but they ultimately fell 25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23.
Stearns led all Tigers with 15 kills and hit .281 along the way, and he added eight digs and three blocks for a Princeton team that will try to win its first game ever at Penn State Saturday. Sophomore Kendall Ratter added seven kills, while classmate Billy Andrew added five from the middle position.
Junior Chris Kennedy came off the bench for 26 assists, while senior Michael Bagnell had 10 digs. Senior Alex Schindele-Murayama added three kills and three blocks.
After dropping its first two sets, the Tigers grabbed a lea midway through the third and then fought off a late Red Flash charge. After Saint Francis cut it to 23-22, Princeton posted back-to-back blocks, both of which included Schindele-Murayama, to earn the set. The Tigers made a big charge after going down early in the fourth, but they weren't able to push it to a fifth.
