BOX SCORE
PRINCETON, N.J. (2/26/16) - Kennedy Marchment scored the lone goal midway through the thitd period to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 win over No. 8 Princeton in Game 1 of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series today at Hobey Baker Rink.
Sliding the puck across the blue line left defender Lydia Grauer found Kiersten Padalis who ripped a shot from the right point. The shot was redirected by Marchment with traffic out front and it banked it past Newell.
The Saints outshot the Tigers, 46-29 with senior netminder Kimberly Newell stopping 45 shots, the second most saves she has made this season. The all-time winningest goalie in Princeton history is six saves away from reaching 3,000 career stops.
"The kids played hard but our execution could have been better," Princeton head coach Jeff Kampersal said. "The chances that we had we either shot over the net or didn't make quality return chances on. We need to do a better job of funneling pucks on the net. I am proud of the kids, they've gone through a lot all season."
A goal by each team in the first period was reviewed and the call on the ice of "no goal" stood.
The Saints had a 12-8 edge in shots in the first and 15-7 in the second with Newell keeping her team clean on one end.
