Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep, Moves Atop EIVA Standings
February 06, 2016 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team took care of business Saturday afternoon in Charleston, and it was rewarded with a place atop the EIVA standings. The Tigers topped the league's newest member 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 to become the first team in the league to reach the 2-0 mark.
Head coach Sam Shweisky was able to use his whole roster Saturday afternoon, though he got yet another impressive performance from first-year starter Billy Andrew. The middle had seven kills and two blocks, and he hit .600 for the win. Fellow starting middle Alex Schindele-Murayama had a dominant performance of his own; he had five kills and two blocks, and he hit .571 in the process.
The majority of the outside hitting responsibilities were spread out, those sophomore Kendall Ratter led that group with five kills and two service aces. Senior Devin Stearns, who ranks eighth in the NCAA in kills this season, played only one set and had three kills.
Both juniors Chris Kennedy (16) and Jonah May (11) split setting duties, while senior Michael Bagnell had 13 digs at the libero spot. Corry Short, Zach Shaw and Trey Sickler all had three kills apiece.
Princeton will take a significant jump in competition next Friday, as it goes from one of the newest Division I programs to one of its most stories. Third-ranked BYU will come to Dillon Gym Friday at 7 pm in a match streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
