The Princeton men's volleyball team will try to play the role of spoiler while fighting for victories over the final three matches of its 2016 season. Its first attempt will come Saturday night when the Tigers head to Virginia to compete against George Mason.
Princeton (3-8 EIVA) was mathematically eliminated from postseason contention last weekend when it suffered a home sweep against Penn State and Saint Francis. George Mason (6-4) shares the final spot in the playoff race with Saint Francis, as both teams have four matches remaining.
Two of the EIVA leaders in kills while be on opposite sides of the net Saturday night. Mason is led by junior Jack Wilson, who ranks third in the league with 3.75 kills per set. Princeton is led by All-EIVA outside Devin Stearns, who is averaging 3.39 kills per set this season. Mason was able to limit Stearns to only six kills in a 3-0 win over the Tigers earlier this season.
While Princeton has struggled to pick up victories, it has gotten some strong performances recently from its underclassmen. Sophomore Kendall Ratter recorded a career-high 23 kills Friday night against EIVA frontrunner Penn State, while classmate Michael Fuerst had 17 kills in a 3-2 loss against Saint Francis.
