Austin deButts Named USILA Scholar All-America
June 13, 2016 | Men's Lacrosse
The recent graduation of Austin deButts brought an end to the family dynasty at Princeton, at least for this generation.
Austin is third of Boota and Shelley deButts' three children, and both of his siblings and both of his parents are also Princeton alums. His father was a Princeton lacrosse captain, and his sister Lindsey and brother Hunter were also lacrosse plyers.
As for Austin deButts, he was a hard-nosed shortstick defensive midfielder who went from being a backup early in his career to a team captain and one of the nation's best at this position at causing turnovers.
Austin added one more honor to the family resume when he was named a USILA Scholar All-America. He was a Woodrow Wilson School major with a certificate in Spanish.
deButts finished his career with 33 caused turnovers, 29 of which came in the last two seasons, when he ranked among the Division I leaders in caused turnovers by a shortstick. He was the team leader in caused turnovers as a junior and was second on the team as a senior.
