Tom Schreiber Named Major League Lacrosse Most Valuable Player
August 18, 2016 | Men's Lacrosse
Tom Schreiber's lacrosse ability has always been matched by his humility, which is why he would probably say that his latest honor is no big deal. He'd be wrong, of course.
Schreiber, the 2014 Princeton grad and Ohio Machine midfielder, has been named the Coca Cola Most Valuable Player for the 2016 Major League Lacrosse season. Schreiber, one of the best passing midfielders ever, led the league with 36 assists and added 23 goals (and one two-pointer) for 60 points, third-best in the league.
The MLL MVP award is decided by a vote of the league's head coaches and general managers.
Schreiber's 36 assists this year are the second-most ever by an MLL midfielder, behind the 38 that Boston's Paul Rabil had in 2012. It's also the sixth-highest total in league history among all players.
Â
The newly crowned MVP and his Ohio teammates will play for the Steinfeld Cup in the MLL championship game against the Denver Outlaws Saturday night at 7 (televised on CBS Sports Network).
Â
Schreiber finished his Princeton career as a three-time first-team All-America and with 200 career points, the most ever by a Princeton midfielder. He was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2014 MLL draft and has been an all-star in each of his first three professional seasons.
