No. 11 Men's Water Polo Drops No. 20 Santa Clara, 13-8

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 11 Princeton men's water polo team took care of another top-20 team, dropping the No. 20 Santa Clara Broncos, 13-8 at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday morning.
Freshman Sean Duncan recorded five goals, three steals and drew two ejections while sophomore Ryan Wilson contributed a four tallies. Sophomore Matt Payne had six assists in the game, one shy of the program record. Senior Jovan Jeremic deposited two in the back of the net, giving him nine in his last three games. Junior Vojislav Mitrovic stopped 12 shots in the win.
The Tigers drew first, taking a two-goal lead halfway through the first quarter, but the Broncos finished the frame with three of the next four tallies, setting the score even after eight minutes. Princeton's defense really clamped down in the second stanza, pitching a shutout as the home squad took an 8-3 lead into halftime. Santa Clara was held without a goal for almost 10 minutes while the Tigers pushed their lead to seven (10-3) in the second half.
The Broncos made a push in the third quarter as they scored three consecutive times to cut their deficit to four (10-6), but Princeton kept them at bay with the next two goals. Santa Clara again got back within four with 3:13 remaining in the game, but Duncan's fifth goal of the game capped off Princeton's second straight win.
