Volleyball Team Follows Up Outrigger Invitational With Home Opener Thursday
January 10, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
After a week of team-building both on and off the court, the Princeton men's volleyball team will make its home debut Thursday night against North Greenville University in a match streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Princeton, which went 2-1 during the 23rd annual Outrigger Resorts International last week, will likely start all four members of its highly touted freshman class, which was named one of the Top 10 incoming classes this year by VolleyballMag.com. One of those freshmen, Parker Dixon, was named to the all-tournament team after leading Princeton with 2.8 points per set throughout the three matches. Fellow freshman Greg Luck wasn't far behind, as he averaged nearly 2.3 points per set despite playing some libero in the 3-0 win over Erskine to close the weekend.
The middle duo included both a returning face (All-EIVA middle Junior Oboh) and a new face (freshman George Huhmann), while freshman setter Shane Gooding paced the offense after senior starter Jonah May suffered an injury. Gooding is likely to join his three classmates in the starting lineup Thursday night when they make their Dillon Gym debut against the North Greenville Crusaders, a member of the Conference Carolinas which opens its season with a four-match road trip in the Northeast this week. North Greenville will make its season debut Wednesday at NJIT, and then will head to Princeton for a 7 pm showdown with the Tigers.
Following Thursday's match, Princeton will be off for more than two weeks for Finals, and then it will head back west to take on UCLA, UC-San Diego and Concordia for its final tune-ups before EIVA play begins.
