The Princeton men's squash team knows that its best opportunity to make a strong move up the national team rankings and — potentially — back into the 'A' draw at the CSA team championships will come this week, when the Tigers play two of the four teams directly in front of them in the latest rankings. That stretch begins Wednesday night, when Princeton hosts No. 6 Penn at 7 pm in the Tigers' first match back from finals break.
The Princeton-Penn match will complete an important home doubleheader for both the men's and women's programs, and all five courts will be streamed live for both matches on the Ivy League Digital Network.
The Tiger men, who should have their full lineup available this week, have been led by their talented underclassmen, including freshman Adhitya Raghavan, whose performance at the British Junior Championships was recently profiled. Freshmen and sophomores have played in six of the top seven spots this season, including sophomore Cody Cortes, who won back-to-back five-game matches against Dartmouth and Harvard prior to finals break. Cortes leads Princeton with four wins this season, while juniors Abhimanyu Shah and Komron Shayegan both match Gabriel Morgan with three victories.
While Raghavan has taken over the No. 1 spot for Princeton, classmates Morgan and Shehab Thabet both impressed during the opening Ivy League weekend. Morgan pulled out a tough four-game match against Dartmouth, while Thabet rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win in five games against the Big Green.
Following Wednesday's home match, Princeton will head north to take on reigning national champion Yale — currently ranked eighth nationally — and No. 19 Brown this weekend. Princeton will face Yale Saturday at 1 pm, and then will take on Brown Sunday at 2:30 pm.
