Colina Surpasses 200 Career Goals; Tigers Earn NWPC Split

Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. – The No. 11 Princeton Tigers earned a split on the road in Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) action on Wednesday evening. Princeton defeated the Iona Gaels, 12-6, before dropping a 13-10 decision to No. 13 St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers.
The Highlights: Iona
Princeton used a 4-1 push to take a 6-3 halftime lead.
The Tigers did not allow Iona to score more than two goals in any period.
Princeton scored five times in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

After each team scored twice in the first quarter, Princeton rushed out with three straight tallies to begin the second frame. The Tigers' defense was strong as they held the Gaels without a goal for 7:41 of game action, stretching between the second and third stanzas. Leading by three, the Tigers registered five goals in the final eight minutes, taking home a 12-6 decision.

This game featured a wild first quarter with each team scoring five goals. In the quarter, Princeton fought back from a two-goal deficit twice. Princeton's fifth goal of the game was scored by Jordan Colina, the 200th of his career. He is just the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone.
The Terriers snagged two of the three tallies in the second quarter to take a 7-6 advantage into the intermission. Princeton countered with two of three goals in the third stanza, setting the score at 8-all after 24 minutes.
The home squad ran out with three consecutive goals to open the fourth quarter to lead 11-8 with 3:36 to go. Every time the Tigers tried to make a run, St. Francis-Brooklyn answered as the road team could not get any closer than two the rest of the way.
With an assist in both games, Ryan Wilson tied the program record for career assists with 136.
Princeton currently stands at 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the NWPC. The Tigers get back on the road this weekend, taking part in the Crimson Invitational. Each game of the Invitational will be streamed on the Ivy League Network. Princeton takes on George Washington (11 a.m.) and Wagner (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday before a contest vs. Bucknell (1 p.m.) on Sunday.
