CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Michael Swart and Sean Duncan's overtime goals gave the No. 13 Princeton Tigers a 11-9 victory over the No. 14 Brown Bears in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament Semifinal at Blodgett Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Swart and Duncan led the Tigers with three goals each. With the victory, Princeton will take on No. 14 Harvard in the NWPC Championship tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
The Highlights:
Princeton held Brown without a goal for the first 7:38 of the third quarter to take an 8-6 lead after 24 minutes.
Brown's Hunter Rawlings' goal with 30 seconds to go tied the game at 9-all.
The Tigers shut out the Bears in the six-minute overtime period to earn the victory.
Princeton and Brown played a fast-paced first half, combining for 10 goals, five ties and four lead changes. No team led by more than a goal as the score was tied, 5-all, at the break.
The Tigers used a three-goal spurt in the third quarter, holding the Browns to just one tally to take an 8-6 advantage after three frames. Jordan Colina, Duncan and Swart registered goals for head coach Luis Nicolao's unit during that stretch.
Brown snagged the first tallies of the final stanza, tying the game at 8-all with 2:11 remaining. Ryan Wilson put the Tigers back on top with 57 seconds to go, but Rawlings sent the game into overtime just 27 seconds later.
Swart's tally with 48 seconds left in the first session of overtime proved to be the game-winner…
