No. 13 Princeton Drops 12-11 Double-OT Heartbreaker to No. 15 Harvard In NWPC Title Game

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 13 Princeton Tigers dropped a heartbreaking 12-11 decision in double-overtime to the No. 15 Harvard Crimson in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Championship Game at Blodgett Pool on Sunday afternoon.
Dennis Blyashov's tally with 2:23 to go in the second extra session sent the Crimson to the NCAA Tournament. Princeton's season comes to an end at 22-6.
The Highlights:
Princeton began the game on a 5-1 run.
Harvard scored the final two goals in regulation including Charlie Owens's tally with 53 seconds left that send the game into overtime.
Each team scored once in the first overtime frame.
Jordan Colina finishes his career with 226 career goals, sixth all-time.
The Tigers began the contest with five of the first six tallies before a goal from Harvard set the score at 5-2 after the first quarter. In the second stanza, the Crimson registered back-to-back tallies, cutting its deficit to two (6-4) before Princeton rallied with consecutive goals before intermission (8-4).
Harvard opened the second half with two goals, but Miles Cole stopped that threat with a tally at the 3:08 mark. The home squad kept pushing, snagging two more goals before the end of the frame (9-8).
Matt Payne posted Princeton's 10th goal with 3:59 remaining, but Harvard rallied with the last two tallies of regulation. Payne played hero in the first portion of overtime as he tied the game at 11-all with 53 seconds to go. Blyashov's goal in the second overtime gave Harvard its second straight NWPC title.
