Parker Dixon, George Huhmann Sweep EIVA Honors For First-Place Tigers

Princeton brought in a nationally ranked recruiting class this past season, and it hasn't taken long for that group to make an impact. Freshmen Parker Dixon and George Huhmann swept the weekly EIVA honors after helping the Tigers to a perfect 2-0 week and a share of first place in the league.
Dixon was named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.4 kills, 4.6 points, and hitting .441 in 3-1 wins over both NJIT and reigning league champion George Mason. Dixon posted a career-high 22 kills and hit .515 in the victory over NJIT, and he followed up with 13 kills and hit .346 against the Patriots. After George Mason fought off one match ball in the fourth set Saturday night, senior Jonah May set his freshman teammate with a chance to clinch the win. Parker, as he did all weekend, delivered.
"Parker has been working extremely diligently on improving all facets of his game," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "He has paid additional attention to his attacking recently, and it paid off in spades last week. I am very proud of him, and I am extremely excited for the growth he still has yet to come."
Huhmann missed the NJIT win due to illness, but he made an immediate impact upon his return. Princeton entered the Saturday showdown with George Mason averaging the fewest blocks in the EIVA, but the 6-11 newcomer made his presence felt. Huhmann recorded nine blocks, including four solo ones, during the 3-1 win that helped Princeton move into a first-place tie with Sacred Heart. Of course, he was pretty good on the offensive end as well; Huhmann killed 10 balls on 10 swings for a perfect hitting day.
"George continues to improve every day, and he made some great strides in his blocking discipline against a strong George Mason offense," Shweisky said. "This is a great step for George, and I know he still has more to go."
Princeton (5-6, 3-1 EIVA) shares first place with Sacred Heart, though most of the league is fairly bunched up through the first three weeks of the season. The Tigers could provide a little added separation this weekend when they head to New England to take on both Harvard (Friday, 7) and Sacred Heart (Saturday, 4).
