Austin Sims Named Ivy Player Of The Week
March 13, 2017 | Men's Lacrosse
Austin Sims just did something that hasn't been done at Princeton in 21 years.
In a stretch that includes three of Princeton's six NCAA championships, plus three other Final Fours and two other championship games - not to mention 13 Ivy League championships - no Princeton player was able to do what Sims has done the last two weeks, and that's to score six or more goals in back-to-back games.
Sims had his second-straight six-goal, one-assist game in Princeton's 17-13 win over Quinnipiac last Tuesday, a performance that has earned Sims the Ivy League Player of the Week Award.
A junior from Fairfield, Conn., Sims scored his six goals on eight shots. The game against Quinnipiac came after Sims had scored six other goals, with an assist, in Princeton's 18-7 win over Johns Hopkins the week before for which he was named Division I Player of the Week.
Sims now leads Princeton in goals with 14, on just 27 shots. He missed Princeton's only loss this year, against Hofstra, due to an injury.
Princeton moved up to No. 16 in the media poll and No. 15 in the coaches' poll. The Tigers are at Rutgers Wednesday in a game moved back one day due to the snowstorm.
Rutgers enters the game 6-0 and ranked fifth in both polls. The game will be streamed on BTN Plus.
