Huhmann Claims Second EIVA Defensive Player of the Week Honor
April 10, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
Freshman middle George Huhmann, a key piece of Princeton's nationally ranked 2016 recruiting class, earned his second EIVA Defensive Player of the Week honor following a terrific performance that helped the Tigers earn a crucial road win at reigning league champion George Mason.
Huhmann, who ranks third in the EIVA with 1.07 blocks per set, record eight blocks (1 solo, 7 assisted) in the 3-1 win at Mason. He had a stellar performance all-around, including 10 kills and a .412 hitting percentage, but his defensive efforts helped the Tigers keep Mason from making a comeback in their home finale.
"I am very proud of how George continues to improve on all facets of his game," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "His worth ethic, drive and humility continue to be the cornerstones of his ability to keep improving. George means a lot to our team from a blocking standpoint, an attacking standpoint as well as a point-scoring server. I am very excited to see what George can accomplish as the season comes to a close."
Huhmann, who also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after Princeton home wins over both NJIT and George Mason, will lead the Tigers into their final home matches of the season this weekend. Princeton hosts both Harvard (Friday, 7) and Sacred Heart (Saturday, 4); wins in both would assure Princeton a third seed in the upcoming EIVA postseason.
Both matches at Dillon Gym this weekend will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
