Currier, Sowers Honored On Inaugural Inside Lacrosse-Media All-America Team

In what figures to be a precursor to the USILA version coming out in two weeks, Zach Currier and Michael Sowers were both honored on the first Inside Lacrosse/Media All-America team. In what hopefully won't be, Gavin McBride wasn't.

Currier was named a first-team All-America midfielder after a season that saw him lead all Division I middies in assists (34) and points (58), not to mention lead Princeton in caused turnovers with 21 and win 114 of 202 face-offs. Currier's biggest strength, of course, is his uncanny ability to win ground balls, and his 130 on the season came within one of the school single-season record.

No player in the country combined the ability to score with the ability to pick up ground balls the way Currier did. In fact, Currier - also a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection - had more points than the other 10 players who reached 100 ground balls combined.

Sowers was named a second-team All-America attackman after a season in which he set a Princeton record with 82 points (41G, 41A) while becoming the first player in program history - and fifth Ivy Leaguer and second Division I freshman - ever to have at least 40 goals and 40 assists in a season. McBride set the Ivy records for goals and points by a freshman and finished the regular season second in Division I in points.

McBride was not on any of the three teams or an honorable mention selection despite leading Division I goals scored (54) and goals scored per game (3.6). His 54 goals also set a program record for goals in a season, breaking the record of 53 set by Jesse Hubbard 21 years ago.

The Inside Lacrosse All-America team was voted on by 30 members of the media. The USILA All-America team will be announced around the Final Four Memorial Day weekend.
