Princeton Alum Will Win MLL TItle Game, But Which One?
August 16, 2017 | Men's Lacrosse
Here's a guarantee: A Princeton alum will be on the winning side of the Major League Lacrosse championship game.
The only question is which one. Or ones.
The MLL title game will be played Saturday at 7 Eastern in Frisco, Texas. It's a rematch of last year's final between the Ohio Machine and the Denver Outlaws - won 19-18 by the Outlaws on a late goal - but with a major difference. A year ago, Denver did not have any Princeton alums. This year, there are three on the roster.
As a result, it'll be Tom Schreiber of the Machine against Zach Currier, Ryan Ambler and Gavin McBride of the Outlaws. And, also as a result, Princeton is certain to come out of the weekend with someone on the winning side.
Currier and McBride were teammates this past year for the Tigers. Ambler is a 2016 grad, and Schreiber graduated in 2014. All four played together in the 2014 season.
Schreiber, the reigning MLL MVP, led the league with 26 assists, despite playing only 10 of the 14 regular season games after finishing the National Lacrosse League season as the Rookie of the Year. Schreiber, who also had 18 goals for 44 points, had three goals and three assists in the 18-13 semifinal win over Florida last weekend.
Currier is one of three finalists this year for the Rookie of the Year Award after a season in which he played nine games and had 11 goals, 15 assists and 32 ground balls. He had at least one goal in eight of nine games, and in the one game he didn't score, he had four assists.
Ambler has seven goals and four assists on the year. McBride scored three goals and was the MLL Rookie of the Week in mid-season.
The game can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
