Sam Shweisky Completes Two-Year Run As USA Youth Head Coach, Leads Americans To Medal Round At Worlds
September 01, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
Princeton men's volleyball head coach Sam Shweisky had a summer experience he'll never forget. He completed his two-year run as the head coach of the U.S. Boys' Youth National Team (BYNT) by leading the Americans to the medal round at the FIVB U-19 World Championships, held recently in Bahrain.
The American squad navigated its way out of the medal round with a trio of wins, but were knocked out of the chase for gold by France in the Round of 16. His squad ultimately placed 15th overall and closed the tournament with a win over Cuba.
"I would like to thank USA Volleyball for this incredible opportunity to work with such talented athletes and staff this past summer. The opportunity to travel to Bahrain and represent USA Volleyball and the United States of America was incredibly powerful for myself, the staff, and all the players. Over the course of the trip we all grew as players, coaches, and most importantly people. We all learned a lot about the Bahraini culture, Arabic language, and Muslim faith. It was an incredibly eye opening and enriching experience that in the end helped us all reflect and learn more about our own culture and customs. Thank you to USA Volleyball for this once in a lifetime opportunity."
The two-year journey began in thrilling fashion, as Shweisky led the USA to the 2016 NORCECA Boys' Youth Continental championship match, which assured an American place in the 2017 World Championships.
