Men's Squash Battles Past George Washington 6-3 In Home Opener
November 18, 2018 | Men's Squash
Princeton showed its depth Sunday afternoon, winning the fifth through ninth matches to post a 6-3 victory over George Washington in the Tigers' 2018-19 home debut. While the bottom four were convincing wins, sophomore Alex Engstrom showed why he is turning into a young leader for the program with a gritty 3-2 comeback win at the #5 spot.
Engstrom trailed 2-1 before posting a 12-10 win in the fourth game, and he followed that with an 11-8 victory in the finale to grab his win at the #5 spot. Junior Henry Parkurst was pushed a bit at #9, though he bounced back from a second-game loss to power past Idan Hare with wins of 11-2 and 11-5 in the final two games. Freshman Howe Cheng made his home debut special with a 3-0 win at #6 over Julian Jarvis, while sophomore Duncan Joyce won a middle 14-12 game en route to a 3-0 sweep at #8.
Juniors Adhitya Raghavan and Gabriel Morgan had terrific performances in their home debut as upperclassmen; both posted dominant 3-0 wins to help Princeton — which pushed Trinity in a tight 6-3 loss Saturday — to its first win of the season.
Princeton will be off for Thanksgiving week, and will then make the always-challenging St. Lawrence-Rochester trip to open the December schedule.
