Men's Squash Hunts Top-5 Opponents During Key Road Weekend
November 30, 2018 | Men's Squash
The Princeton men's squash team will head to upstate New York in search of at least one major upset to help build momentum heading into the 2019 portion of the season. The 13th-ranked Tigers, who pushed #1 Trinity last week in a 6-3 loss, will take on both #4 St. Lawrence (Saturday, 12 pm) and #5 Rochester (Sunday, 12 pm) this weekend.
Princeton (1-2) dropped to #13 in the rankings after suffering an injury-depleted 5-4 loss to Virginia in the season opener. With the majority of its lineup back the following weekend, Princeton nearly stunned Trinity and followed with a strong win over #14 George Washington. Now the Tigers know they will need to begin climbing back in the rankings, and they'll get two big opportunities this weekend.
The Tigers have been led by the upperclassman duo of Clark Doyle and Adhitya Raghavan at the top of the lineup, but they have also gotten impressive performances from freshmen Daelum Mawji and Howe Cheng so far this season. Mawji moved to the #3 position on the ladder and pushed Trinity veteran Thoboki Mohohlo to five games before eventually falling. Cheng is undefeated at #6 on the season, including Princeton's only 3-0 win over Trinity.
St. Lawrence will be playing its season debut Saturday at noon, while Rochester is 2-0 on the young season with wins over both Cornell and Western Ontario.
