Princeton Debuts At Second In Division I In Directors Cup Standings

Princeton's amazing fall has led to an equally amazing rise in the first Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for 2018-19.

The Tigers debuted at No. 2 in the first Cup standings, which were released this morning. That's No. 2, as in No. 2 in all of Division I. The ranking marks the second time that Princeton has reached as high as No. 2 at any point of an academic year.

Princeton's fall season featured five league championships and six NCAA championship teams. The first rankings include only men's and women's cross country, in which the Tigers qualified both teams for the national finals, and field hockey, in which Princeton reached the Final Four.

The Tigers will still get points in the fall for men's and women's soccer and men's water polo. Those numbers will be released at a later date.

Princeton has been the top finisher among Ivy League schools in 22 of the 25 years the Cup has been awarded. The Tigers finished 40th last year, making Princeton the only school from a non-Power Five conference to finish in the top 40.
