The Princeton men's volleyball team heads back on the road this weekend for a single-match EIVA weekend, as the Tigers travel to Fairfax, Va., for a Saturday night showdown against George Mason at 7 pm.
Princeton (1-9, 0-2 EIVA) opened league competition against a vastly improved Charleston squad, which improved to 6-1 on the weekend with a pair of victories. The Tigers had their opportunities in both matches, but a youth-laden starting lineup couldn't finish enough tight sets on either day to come away with the win. They have been the victim of a loaded schedule, which has included nine of the first 10 matches away from home, and eight of those matches against teams ranked in the AVCA Top 15 at some point this season.
It won't get any easier this weekend, as Mason is the first team outside the latest AVCA Top 15 rankings, and each of its seven losses this season has come to teams also ranked inside the Top 15. Mason pushed top-ranked Long Beach State in a pair of tight sets during a 3-0 loss last weekend.
Princeton swept Mason in a pair of 3-1 matches last season, with Parker Dixon leading the Tigers with an average of 14.0 kills per match.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Princeton, which returns to Dillon Gym next weekend to begin a huge five-match homestand of EIVA competition. That stretch starts with the Harvard/Sacred Heart weekend, and it will be highlighted by the March 3 match against Penn State, when the Tigers honor the 1998 EIVA championship team.
