Andrew Song Named Ivy League Rookie Of The Week
February 26, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
Let's see. A stat line that includes numbers under goals, ground balls, caused turnovers and face-off wins. Who does that sound like to your average Princeton men's lacrosse fan?
If you guessed Zach Currier, then you'd be correct. And if you thought it would be awhile before another Princeton player did that after Currier graduated last spring, well, it took all of two games.
Andrew Song, a freshman longstick midfielder, had a goal, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two wins in five face-off attempts in Princeton's 18-15 loss to Virginia Saturday. He also kept UVa All-America Dox Aitken off the scoreboard while guarding him for much of the game.
Song's performance earned him Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. It also was a first in Princeton men's lacrosse history.
Since caused turnovers became an official stat in 2009, only six players - now including Song - have ever had a game that included at least one goal, ground ball, caused turnover and face-off win. Song is also the only player to do so with a longstick.
Princeton will next play Saturday, March 3, at 6 pm at Johns Hopkins before returning home for games against NJIT (Tuesday March 6) and Rutgers (Saturday, March 10).
