Huhmann, Oboh Lead Princeton To Second Consecutive Sweep Of Weekly EIVA Awards
March 12, 2018 | Men's Volleyball
Over the last 10 days, the Princeton men's volleyball team has won four EIVA matches, and it also swept all four EIVA Player of the Week awards. One week after sophomore George Huhmann became the third player in league history to win both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, Huhmann joined All-EIVA teammate Junior Oboh in winning the latest weekly honors.
Huhmann claimed his second straight Offensive Player of the Week honor after averaging 4.0 kills and 5.2 points per set in a home-and-home league sweep of NJIT. The reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year matched his career high Friday night with 24 kills in a 3-2 home win over NJIT, and he followed that with 12 kills, seven blocks, and four service aces the following night in a 3-1 road win at NJIT.
Huhmann has moved into the top two in the EIVA in both kills (3.35) and points (4.3) per set, and his play over the last two weekends has helped the Tigers climb out of an early hole and into playoff position going into the final stretch of the season. Princeton is 5-4 in league play and currently stands fourth in the league standings.
Oboh had a huge presence at the net over the weekend. He had seven blocks in the Friday win over NJIT, and he followed that with eight blocks in only four sets in the Saturday road win; the eight blocks is the most Oboh has ever had in an EIVA match, and it is the second-most he has had in any collegiate match of his esteemed career. Oboh moved to the top of the league's blocking stats over the weekend, as he now averages 1.07 per set.
Princeton is off this week, and will travel to play matches at both Lindenbrook and McKendree over the Spring Break week.
