Sowers Named To USILA Team Of The Week
March 13, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
Michael Sowers became the fastest Princeton men's lacrosse player ever to reach 100 points - and then he just kept going.
Sowers reached the milestone early in the first quarter of Princeton's game last Tuesday against NJIT. By the time Princeton had won that game and then beaten Rutgers four days later, Sowers found himself up to 114 points.
In all it was a 17-point week for Sowers, a performance that earned him a spot on the 10-man USILA Team of the Week, which honors the top 10 players in Division I each week. It brought him to 52 career goals and 62 career assists in just 20 career games.
Sowers started the week with three goals and five assists in little less than three quarters in the 15-8 win over NJIT and then came back with three more goals and six assists against Rutgers in a 15-14 overtime win Saturday. The nine points against Rutgers tied his career high, giving him three nine-point games, and the six assists were a new career high, after he had equaled his previous career high of five in the NJIT game.
Sowers leads Division I in assists per game and is third in Division I in points per game.
Princeton opens its Ivy League season Saturday at 4 at home against Penn. The game can be seen live on ESPNU.
