Austin Sims Taken By Atlanta With 20th Pick Of MLL Draft
April 18, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
When you think of Austin Sims, you think of rocket shots and the goals they produce.
If you saw him reach 100 career points at Princeton, though, you saw a different side of his game, as he feathered a pass to Phillip Robertson for an assist. And if you remember back to his freshman year, he was a shortstick defensive midfielder.
It's that wide-ranging skillset that makes Princeton's senior midfielder even more special, and it's that skillset that translates very well to the next level, something that wasn't lost on the Atlanta Blaze of Major League Lacrosse.
The Blaze made Sims the 20th pick of the MLL draft, choosing Sims in the third round Wednesday night. Sims will bring his versatility to a team that is in its third season, after going 4-10 in 2016 and 6-8 a year ago.
Sims, a Princeton tri-captain this year and the co-captain of the 2016 U.S. team that won the gold medal at the World U-19 Championships, has reached 40 points for the first time in a season, with 27 goals and 13 assists this year. For his career he has 103 points, on 77 goals and 26 assists.
